Watching older movies is a fun blast from the past, but what makes them even more fun to watch is when they unintentionally predict the future. These movies might have been filmed long ago, but they have been proven accurate as they aged over time. Based on what has already been predicted, it is exciting to think about what might be coming up next.

The Movies

  • Total Recall (1990): In this film, a trip to Mars takes place. While this is still not a reality just yet, what is predicted actually had to do with a different form of transportation – self-driving cars.
  • Blade Runner (1982): It is a huge part of life, but it was not always this way. Digital billboards were first introduced in this film as a new concept.
  • Star Wars (1977): Almost everybody has seen this classic, and it is widely loved to this day. Holograms were depicted here, and they exist today. This technology no longer belongs in the future because it has become a part of modern life.
  • Fahrenheit 451 (1966): Way back in the 60’s, earbuds were first portrayed in this film. Mostly everybody owns a pair now, but they were simply a concept of science fiction back then. It is interesting to see just how far technology has come since this time.

Why They Are Fascinating

In general, people gravitate toward science fiction because it acts as an escape from reality. No matter what is going on in the real world, these movies allow for a temporary change of pace. It is not unusual for them to be completely out of reach, but audiences everywhere still enjoy them because of the possibilities they mention.

Even though the scenarios happening in the movies might never happen in our lifetimes, they are still very interesting to get lost in. So many people of different generations and backgrounds all come together to bond over these movies.

The next time a science fiction movie is on, pay attention! This might be the next indicator of what is going to happen in the years to come.
